Chords are combinations of notes. This page will detail the most common chord shapes. As you learn each shape try the following;
1) Play the chord shape and remove a finger from the chord. Does it sound nice?
2) Slide the chord shape up the guitar neck. Move the shape up two frets and you will have moved a tone. Move the shape up a fret and you will have moved a semi tone. Experiment.
3) Play the chord shape and practice changing chord shape to a second chord.
I encourage you to experiment with your chord shapes. Once the shape is in your fingers, play around with it.
The Major Chords
Major chords are the most common. To my ears, they sound complete or happy. Major chords will feature in most of the songs you will play.
